Scotland

Whenever people find out I lived in Scotland, the following conversation always takes place:

RP (Random Person): How did you end up there?
Me: My husband's work asked him, we thought it was a cool opportunity, so went for it.
RP: And your husband does what?
Me: He's an accountant.
RP has a semi-shocked look on their face.
Me: Yeah, its a cool job. Kind of like being James Bond.

Before moving to Scotland, I had never actually been there. But the opportunity came up, so we moved. I will say, it was hard moving so far away from home, but we fell in love with Scotland and it became like home. When we moved back to the states in 2010, I think both the husband and I left a bit of our hearts in Scotland.

We spent three and a half great years in Scotland. Two were spent in Edinburgh (2007-2009) and the rest in Aberdeen (2009-2010). When we moved there, I didn't know what to expect. I remember those first days, weeks, months. Everything seemed so foreign to me. Things were just different enough from the states to annoy me. And the weather, oh the weather was awful. Then, I adapted and made friends. I learned to bundle up and not let the weather get to me. And then, Scotland became a wonderful place. It is a beautiful country with so much to offer. We spent time traveling around it, we had our son there, we made lifelong friends there. Scotland will definitely always hold a special place in my heart.

Here is what I wrote when we moved there:
